This morning, hundreds of Ugandans flocked to Makerere University in Kampala in preparation for the Thanksgiving Rally. The rally was organised and fronted by Pastor Martin Ssempa (remember the ‘EAT DA POO POO’ guy? Yeah, that’s him) to show Uganda’s appreciation for the recent signing of the Anti-Homosexuality Bill.
I arrived at 8:00am, just as a small crowd had begun to gather, a fake smile plastered on my face so as not to arouse suspicion of being a ‘promoter’, and got to work.
Paper signs displaying varied messages of homosexual intolerance were sprawled on the grass for attendees to come along and pick out their preferred statements, ready to wave them in the air for the duration of the four mile march to Kololo Airstrip.
