CLEO, KRISTIN AMPARO AND BROKE ‘N’ TIPSY HAVE PRODUCED THIS WEEK’S BEST SONG, GÅ PÅ SALONG, – A FEMINIST ANTHEM TELLING OF THINGS TO COME…
I’m going to begin this post by urging you to read my latest entry on Climax Online’s Climax Midweek Music blog.
MidWeek Music is a weekly music blog which features that week’s best tracks, hand-picked by myself, and this time it is particularly great in my opinion as it is made up of lots of very fierce females.
Here Meghan Trainor delivers a brilliant pop tune about body positivity, serving up a well-deserved critique of our severely skewed media industry and Kate Tempest raps her way into our hearts with some rather on-point observations about British society. Yet, however amazing, they are not the focus of my attention this week.
Because, last but not least and continuing on the theme of fierce females, I have included the brand new video from Swedish rapper Cleo together with Kristin Amparo and Broke ‘N’ Tipsy. Their new release Gå På Salong is a song about going to the salon – not to make themselves look nice for a man but to enjoy it; because it feels nice. They go there because there they can be in peace, because salons are safe havens for women around the world and because they are spaces where world domination can be planned all whilst getting a manicure.
Gå På Salong is a real feminist anthem; the video features hairy armpits, sweaty saunas, strong voices and prolific women with a clear agenda and the whole thing is just bloody brilliant. It is also very telling of a growing movement.
Sweden is boiling with feminism at the moment (Swedish party Feminist Initiative even got a seat in the European Parliament in May!) and the message is spreading by the day. This, my friends, is a mere indication of things to come…
