As many of you will know, I am an avid Eurovision fan and this year, thanks to Måns Zelmerlöw’s heroic win last year, the world’s greatest music competition is taking place in Stockholm, my home town. Cyd and I have got tickets to the final jury vote rehearsal (thank you Dave!) and I am excited, to say the least.
The Eurovision Song Contest takes place during a week in May, with the grand final on 14 May, but Eurovision season has already begun.
In Sweden we hold a 6 week long competition to select our Eurovision entry and that competition, called Melodifestivalen, starts tonight! It’s all very serious and no songs are released before the show (though you can hear snippets of tonight’s entries here), which features both the best and (at times) the worst of Swedish music. Different genres, styles and people are represented and it’s all in all a big ol’ party.
It is safe to say I am a little bit jealous not to be in Sweden right now, however the TV shows are available in the UK too; you can watch them all via SVT Play. Tonight the competition starts at 7pm UK time.
Let the Eurovision Euphoria begin!
